It is my privilege to welcome you to the West Australian Renaissance Music Summer School. I am delighted to act as WARMSS’ patron as it continues to expand.

Having spent time in Perth early in my career, I retain a fond connection to Western Australia and its vibrant musical community. Though my work has subsequently taken me through cathedral and college posts in the UK and the America, and now to the Chapel of King’s College in Cambridge, I have followed the growth of choral music in the region with genuine interest, returning recently on tour with the King’s chapel choir. I’m so glad to support this new initiative in Perth.

WARMSS’s co-founders, Canadian-born Greg Skidmore now living in London and Hugh Lydon, a British singer and educator based in Perth, established this course in 2025 to create a dedicated home for Renaissance music in the region, and in Australia more broadly. Their vision builds on the success Greg has had in Canada for almost a decade combining international ensemble expertise with local choral leadership with his Canadian Renaissance Music Summer Schools organisation. WARMSS provides singers in Australia with a rare opportunity to dedicate serious time to Renaissance music in a focused and ambitious environment. Supported by an outstanding faculty including Amy Moore and Andrew O’Connor, two of Australia’s leading professional ensemble singers, the course offers a high level of tuition across solo, consort, and large ensemble repertoire.

WARMSS remains committed to establishing high standards of performance while welcoming singers from varied backgrounds. Whether you are a student starting out on a professional career, or an accomplished amateur singer looking to broaden your repertoire - or just sing more of this amazing music! - you will find an environment that is musically ambitious yet welcoming and supportive.

I encourage you to take advantage of what WARMSS offers: a chance to study and perform Renaissance music at a high standard, learn from internationally renowned staff, and have a great few days immersing yourself in the rich tradition of Renaissance polyphony.
